From Data to Wellness: Sword Partnership Performance
Individuals facing back, joint, or muscle pain are always on the lookout for innovative solutions to address this pervasive health issue. Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions affect 50 percent of Americans aged 18 and above, and nearly three in four in those over 65. That’s why we are encouraged by the latest performance statistics from our partnership with Sword, a digital physical therapy program that we started offering to members on January 1, 2023.
The results below, based on data collected from Gravie members who completed at least nine sessions and underwent a reassessment eight weeks or later after the program, demonstrate a significant improvement in the overall wellbeing of participants from their baseline measures (or start of the program).
Decrease in anxiety
Decrease in depression
Reduction in
pain levels
Reduction in
surgery intent

The Sword program is not only revolutionizing MSK pain management but also minimizing the financial burden on members. By reducing the dependence on pain medications and decreasing the likelihood of surgical intervention, Sword is paving the way for a healthier and more cost-effective approach to pain management. This solution empowers individuals to regain control over their lives, helping them leave their pain behind. The intention is that individuals don’t just get better but stay better.
A Hope for Members
Sword’s success offers hope for those grappling with MSK pain and searching for genuine solutions that reduce ongoing pain and discomfort in their daily lives.
Since introducing Sword to members, there has been a remarkable 70% increase in enrollment. This surge in interest is a testament to the program’s effectiveness in treating pain, simplifying pain management and alleviating the financial strain on members. However, it’s essential to ensure this enthusiasm isn’t just another case of “wellness washing,” where superficial wellness initiatives replace genuine support. We’re listening to our member’s experiences, and the results speak for themselves.
“After trying to manage my chronic neck pain in several different ways, Sword proved to be the missing puzzle piece to stay ahead of flare-ups. The whole process was slick, and the exercises were simple but effective. I especially liked that I could complete the exercises on my own schedule at home; that flexibility was a huge motivation for giving physical therapy a try and sticking with it.”
