Guide to Vision Insurance
Routine eye exams are an important part of your overall health and wellness! Your doctor will check for problems with your vision and screen for more serious conditions. If you’re due for a routine eye exam or if you know you’ll need prescription eye glasses or contacts this year, you might want to consider your options for vision insurance.
Check out our quick guide to vision insurance to help answer a few commonly asked questions:
What is vision insurance?
Vision insurance is optional insurance that helps offset the costs associated with routine eye exams and prescription eyewear.
Who should have vision insurance?
Anyone can benefit from vision coverage, but it is especially helpful for those who require corrective eyewear.
What do vision plans typically cover?
It’s important to know what is covered under your vision plan versus your medical plan:
Vision insurance covers routine eye exams and the cost of corrective eyewear. With a vision plan, you can also receive discounts on corrective eye surgery (like Lasik) – which is typically an out of pocket expense.
Medical insurance covers eye care that is linked to a medical condition, such as glaucoma, cataracts, eye infections, styes, and more.
When should you get vision insurance?
You can buy vision insurance at any time during the year! Please note, most vision plans are a 12-month contract. Once you use your benefits towards an eye exam or corrective eyewear, you can no longer cancel your plan until after the 12-month period.
